Kids learn best when they use their senses—touch, sight, hearing, smell, and taste—to explore the world around them. Understanding how each sense works makes learning exciting and builds curiosity. Here are 6 fun ways to help kids understand the five senses through playful learning.
Let kids taste small portions of lemon, jaggery, curd and bitter karela and guess the taste—sour, sweet, salty or bitter.
Use common sounds like clapping, pressure cooker whistle or spoon tapping a glass and ask kids to guess with closed eyes.
Fill small bowls with items like rice, atta, chopped vegetables and soft cotton and let kids feel and describe each texture.
Place familiar Indian spices like elaichi (cardamom), haldi (turmeric) and clove in covered bowls and let kids guess the smell.
Play “I spy” with colourful kitchen items like red chillies, green peas or orange carrots to sharpen observation skills.
Let kids draw or paste pictures of what they saw, touched, heard, tasted and smelled in a day and talk about it.
