WHAT EXACTLY IS SUGAR?
Sugar is a type of carbohydrate found in a variety of foods. Fibre and starches are other examples of carbohydrates. When we eat carbohydrates, our bodies break them down into glucose. But, what is glucose? Glucose is a type of sugar that provides brain and body with fuel, giving your active kids the nourishing energy they need to play, think, jump, skip, and hop.
'Sugar' includes glucose, fructose, galactose, sucrose, lactose, and maltose that are added to food by manufacturers, cooks, or consumers. This includes ingredients like cane sugar, syrup, and honey.
Additionally, some sugars are naturally present in foods, such as the fructose in fresh and dried fruit and the lactose in milk and yogurt.
